It is already foreseeable that some developments will continue to present the world with major and ever-increasing challenges for many years to come. The European Union wants to meet these future challenges today. Strategic foresight enables the EU to identify and analyse future developments and trends. Based on this, it can develop well-founded decisions and strategies.
As part of the “Foresight on Demand II” consultancy contract, the European Commission will be supported from 2024-2028 by being provided future-oriented knowledge to proactively integrate long-term challenges such as climate change or the digital transformation into its strategic programmes. Prognos is supporting the expert consortium under the leadership of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT).
The European Commission and other EU organisations need future-oriented knowledge in order to strategically align their programmes and funding. For this reason, the “Foresight on Demand” (FoD) consultancy contract was extended for a further four years under the leadership of the AIT.
The FoD consortium advises the European Commission and 14 other EU organisations on forward-looking policy design. The consultancy contract enables the European Commission to access the necessary future knowledge in a timely manner and build anticipatory capacities within its own organisations. In this way, long-term challenges such as climate change, digitalisation and globalisation will be integrated proactively and with foresight into the strategies of EU organisations. This strengthens the EU’s ability to be prepared for future developments and crises and to react accordingly.
Within the framework of FoD, science-based, systemic and participatory findings are generated that support political decision-making processes in the present. The results are disseminated in the form of reports, scenarios and recommendations for action and thus directly influence the EU’s political agenda and, in particular, research and innovation policy.
Prognos supports the 15 core partners, consisting of renowned research and technology organisations as well as specialised foresight partners.
