„The pandemic has triggered one obvious change in the issue of reconciliation: Measures such as home office have become more standard.“ Dr. Dagmar Weßler-Poßberg, Vice-Director The impact of the Corona crisis and of the pandemic response measures on families is complex. In particular, the closure of daycare centres and schools has resulted in special burdens. In this respect, effects are relevant in the context of reconciling family and work. Which experiences offer new perspectives for companies and their company personnel policies? This is what our experts have systematically examined on behalf of the corporate programme ‚Erfolgsfaktor Familie‘ of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The future of corporate human resources policy A subliminal, cultural but all the more profound change has taken place in companies over the last year and a half: In the pandemic, companies have become particularly aware of the importance of reconciling family and work; it is being recognised as a productivity factor. In addition, it has become apparent that fathers have reconciliation needs just as much as mothers and companies have responded to these needs. During the pandemic, companies broke new ground in reconciling family and work. Looking ahead, the experience offers new opportunities for reconciliation: the shortage of skilled workers remains a structural risk for companies in Germany. Therefore, investments in corporate family awareness are part of corporate risk management.
