Application

The Prognos Industry model calculates the energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of the industry by sector or product. Based on this, the resulting costs for individual industries (investment and operating costs) are also derived and potential decarbonisation paths determined or compared. Interactions and interdependencies are identified and quantified, including the required hydrogen demand, captured amounts of CO2, and the impact of material efficiency and recycling of raw materials.

Model core

The Prognos Industry model calculates final energy consumption, material energy requirements, and industrial GHG emissions by industry sector (i. e., product groups), applications, and energy sources, or greenhouse gases, in annual increments. It is a long-term forecasting model, not an economic model. Individual consumers are calculated in as detailed a manner as possible according to clearly defined relationships. Individual sectors, especially in the raw materials industry, are additionally subdivided into products and/or production processes. This isolated recourse to industry-specific circumstances is necessary to describe the impact of production changes on energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Energy Efficiency Roadmap 2045

ongoing
| Project

Climate neutrality can only be achieved through higher energy efficiency. The German govern-ment's “Energy Efficiency Roadmap 2050” dialogue forum prepares concrete measures.

Energy projections 2030/2050

2020
| Project

On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics, Prognos has determined whether the Federal Government’s climate protection package will be enough for Germany to achieve its climate targets by 2030.

Climate Path for Germany

2018
| Project

How can Germany reach its 2050 climate goals - and under what conditions is that possible? Those are the questions addressed by a study for the Association of German Industry (BDI).
