Strategic sustainability agenda in the energy industry
2021
Extensive sustainability activities, numerous ideas and plans for strategic implementation and comprehensive reporting – as a key player in the energy transition, at first glance, our client had already firmly anchored sustainability in their company. However, what was missing was a holistic framework to structure the numerous ideas and activities, to make them more tangible and visible.
Together with the client, we identified the company’s key sustainability topics. The input was provided by standard frameworks, internal and external expert discussions, workshops, and the company’s previous sustainability programme. The main sustainability topics were assigned to strategic priorities and supported with measures. Of particular importance: the measures were then echoed with the relevant specialist departments in terms of their feasibility.
The process, closely coordinated with the company’s central departments, ensured the legitimacy of the strategic sustainability agenda and its implementation. One core element of the agenda is the lighthouse projects. These will be promoted with the highest priority in the future and will have a special impact both internally and externally. For this purpose, the team also developed a governance, stakeholder, and communication concept.
As part of the consulting project, a strategic sustainability agenda was developed, supported, and implemented by the company as a whole, the specialist departments, as well as the board of directors. This will provide orientation for groundbreaking company decisions – and thus contribute sustainably to success.
