Digital technologies have the potential to make a decisive contribution to the ecological sustainability transformation and thus to the achievement of Germany and Europe’s climate and environmental protection goals. In light of this, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) has launched the “GreenTech Innovation Competition” funding programme. Together with further partners, we are responsible for the accompanying research.

Combining digital innovation and environmental progress

The aim of the BMWK's “GreenTech Innovation Competition” technology programme is to combine economic and ecological interests through digital technologies. A total of 21 projects will receive around 75 million euros in funding over a three-year period.

The funding programme addresses three levels:

  1. Sustainability through digital technologies: increasing the efficiency of products and processes and making them more environmentally friendly, raising industry-wide synergy potential and establishing circular value-added networks.
  2. Sustainability of digital technologies: making digital technologies (such as cloud computing and cloud storage) more sustainable.
  3. Using digital technologies to measure sustainability: investors and businesses as well as consumers need objective and comparable information on the sustainability of products and services.

Our mission

Prognos and its partners provide this programme with scientific support to assist the networking of the funded projects and with transferring the results to industry and the public.

Our work in this context extends across the project and programme level. It includes measures for community building, networking, and public relations, as well as studies and workshops on specialist topics, exploitation issues and legal aspects.
