The Baden-Württemberg State Government launched the WIN Business Sustainability Initiative in 2010. WIN is an initiative within the larger sustainability strategy of the State of Baden-Württemberg, which Prognos has been supporting together with the communication agency Ökomedia GmbH, since 2012. The WIN Business Sustainability Initiative has set itself the goal of pooling the experience and knowledge of sustainably committed companies, defining success factors, and promoting sustainable business – from craft businesses to medium-sized suppliers and global players. Prognos and Ökomedia advise and support the state government of Baden-Württemberg in becoming a pioneer in the topic of sustainable business. Prognos’ central task is to provide strategic and conceptual support, while our partner Ökomedia is responsible for communication. Together we develop implementation concepts, organise events, initiate platforms, create new networking formats, offer thematic orientation, and onboard increasing numbers of entrepreneurs. Development and anchoring of the WIN Charter As part of the WIN Business Sustainability Initiative, the Baden-Württemberg State Government and Prognos launched the WIN Charter, a regional sustainability management system specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises. By signing the WIN Charter, companies make a clear commitment to economic, environmental, and social responsibility. In addition to the reporting standards, Prognos designs and organises regular exchange and information formats in cooperation with Ökomedia. The WIN workshops facilitate discussion between representatives of member companies and with representatives of the Ministry of the Environment on current topics concerning sustainable business. The workshops offer WIN-Charter companies the opportunity to present their own activities and to intensify knowledge transfer. To the report (in German) Climate protection agreement with companies On behalf of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, Prognos developed the concept and accompanying materials for the new climate alliance with Baden-Württemberg companies. The aim of the climate protection agreement is to reduce companies’ direct greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1), emissions from energy sources (Scope 2) and those from the upstream and downstream supply chain (Scope 3), and to become climate neutral. To the report (in German) Sustainable Production information platform Together with Ökomedia, we developed the “Sustainable Production” information platform for the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment. The motto: inspiring, sharing knowledge, networking companies, and awakening a desire for the future. To the report (in German) WIN Initiative Circle and working groups Prognos and Ökomedia support and advise the WIN Initiative Circle’s working groups at regular intervals. The WIN Initiative Circle is a body of the WIN Business Sustainability Initiative. The circle determines the main areas of action for the WIN and deals intensively with topics from the entire spectrum of sustainable business. The committee consists of owners, managing directors, and the senior managers of companies committed to sustainable business. In addition, the committee includes experts from several professional organisations and chambers as well as representatives of the state administration. In specific, topic-related working groups, members develop implementable measures from ideas. Prognos is actively involved in the organisation and implementation of the working group meetings and accompanies them strategically. With Prognos’ cooperation, these working groups have resulted in the WIN Charter and the creation of the “Sustainable Production” information platform. WIN forums In addition to the committee and its working meetings, Prognos and Ökomedia organise information events for companies interested in becoming part of the WIN-Charter family. Interested companies can attend information events where they can learn about the Business Sustainability Initiative and the WIN Charter and its contents, objectives, and implementation.
